Sugababes Set To Push The Button For Birmingham

18 October 2007 | Categories: Sugababes | Permalink

TOP girl band Sugababes are to switch on this year’s Birmingham’s Christmas lights, it was revealed today.

McFly, Leonna Lewis and Scouting For Girls will also perform alongside the pop trio in a free five hour concert at Millennium Point in the build-up to the big switch-on. The glittering event, hosted by BRMB breakfast presenters Elliott Webb and Caroline Martin, will take place on November 10.

Keisha, Heidi and Amelle from the Sugababes are currently at No 1 in the charts with song About You Now, and have a string of other hits to their name, including Push The Button, Red Dress and Round Round. They are one of Britain’s most successful girl bands and also became the first band ever to top the UK singles chart on downloads alone on Sunday.

Coun Ray Hassell, Birmingham leisure spokesman, said: “We want to give the people of Birmingham a Christmas they’ll remember for years to come. Birmingham has one of the best Christmas programmes in the UK which attracts millions of visitors to our great city. It is a time for families and friends to get together and there is a wide variety of events and entertainment to suit all ages and backgrounds to celebrate the Christmas Lights Switch-On.”

Organisers hope this year’s event, sponsored by Retail Birmingham and BRMB, will be the most dazzling yet.

DJ Elliott Webb, from BRMB, said: “Last year, everyone had an amazing night and we brought along some great artists, but if you thought we did well in 2006, you ain’t seen nothing yet.”

More than 30,000 people gathered at Millennium Point last year to see former Blue heart-throb Simon Webbe switch on the lights after a concert including McFly and Lil Chris.

The free five hour concert will start at 3pm, with the lights switch-on at 7.30pm by the Sugababes and a fireworks finale later in the evening.
