Tour Ends With A Bang

13 April 2007 | Categories: Sugababes | Permalink

The Sugababes’ Greatest Hits Tour ended with a bang tonight at London’s Wembley Arena. Each of the ‘babes expressed their excitement and sense of achievement at being the headline act at one of the country’s biggest and well known arenas. Yet they were not the only ones who were excited. The audience, who were made up of young children and their parents, to older couples by themselves, and everyone in-between. Straight, gay, black, and white, all with the same goal - to have a good time.

The concert began with three large rectangular screens in the centre of the stage, suspended from the ceiling. Each screen played documentary style footage of each ‘babe in her first costume of the night supposedly outside the venue walking towards it, entering it, climbing the stairs, and getting closer and closer towards the stage. Finally the screens were raised, revealing a Sugababe behind each one. At this point the audience erupted with cheers and applause. Launching with Red Dress and then belting out some more of their most popular hits the arena was full of energy. Even during the ballads most of the audience resisted sitting down, opting instead to sway and sing along.

This was up until the performance of Caught In A Moment. During which the security staff told the bemused audience to sit down, without explanation. The audience reluctantly complied, looking at each other confused. With everyone seated and wondering what was going on the song received a less energetic reception. Afterwards Keisha came to the front of the stage to announce “Hey security guards - leave our fans alone!” At this point the audience jumped to their feet, cheering and applauding while Keisha continued to show her displeasure at the guards attempting to stifle the fans’ enjoyment of the evening. Heidi and Amelle then expressed similar sentiments before the show got back into full swing with a medley of the Sugababes’ favourite album tracks that didn’t make it as a single. Heidi chose Obsession, Amelle chose Nasty Ghetto, and Keisha chose Whatever Makes You Happy.

The concert came to a spectacular climax, with the Sugababes performing their biggest hit to date Push The Button whilst wearing black tops with the words FEEL MY HITS on them in neon colours. Towards the end of the song everyone was on their feet singing and dancing along. Suddenly two cylinders at either end of the stage exploded and gold metallic paper strips rained down on the audience. At the end of the song more pyrotechnics were launched - literally ending the magnificent show with a bang.

If you were unable to catch the ‘babes on tour this year you may be able to catch them at one of the summer festivals they are playing out. Check out our calendar on the left hand side of the page to view the upcoming dates and keep checking back to see if any more are added.
